On Friday, January 29, 2010 over 1,000 supporters including a large contingent of unionists attended a fundraiser held at Florian Hall for the family of Jerry Leary. Brother Leary, the Vice-President of IBEW Local 2222 and a GBLC board member, passed away in December after a valiant fight against cancer.

The event, which raised over $100,000 for the large and loving family that Brother Leary left behind, was a reflection on his legacy in both his community and the labor movement. "I was heartened by the tremendous support that GBLC affiliates and leaders provided to the Leary family. Jerry was a special person who was always there for others and it personified the best of the labor movement that we were there for his family," said GBLC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Rich Rogers.

The GBLC had presented the fund with a check for $1,000 at the GBLC's monthly delegates' meeting in January.
