AFGE Local 2617, which represents Transportation Security Officers at Logan Airport, are fighting for their members' rights; that fight that included a successful press conference on Friday, January 8th.  At the event, Local 2617 President AJ Castilla advocated for the right of TSOs to form a union, a right that was uniquely denied to airline security officers when the TSA was created during the administration of George W. Bush.  Congressmen Michael Capuano and Stephen Lynch spoke in favor of AFGE's efforts, as did ST Rogers, Mass. AFL-CIO President Bob Haynes, North Shore Labor Council President Jeff Crosby, AFL-CIO Regional Director Sandy Felder, and several other labor leaders from airport and public safety unions in the Boston area.  To find out how to help AFGE Local 2617 in their effort, please e-mail Council Organizer Jonah Peppiatt or Mass. AFL-CIO organizing coordinator John Drinkwater.
