The campaign to unionize Boston’s massive health care industry will kick off with a rally in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston on the afternoon of Tuesday October 16th.

The organizing campaign a joint effort of 1199 SEIU and the Area Trades Council is one of the largest and most ambitious organizing efforts in decades. All GBLC affiliates are urged to send representatives to the rally. A mailing will be sent to all GBLC affiliates with all the particulars in the near future. 1199 SEIU and the Area Trades Council, a bargaining coalition comprised of IBEW Local 103, the New England Council of Carpenters, Operating Engineers Local 877, Painters District Council 35 and Plumbers Local 12, represent workers in a number of Boston’s hospitals and are attempting to bring the benefits of unionization to the entire health care industry workforce.
