Chair: Patricia Armstrong, Boston Teachers Union
The Political Committee is charged with reviewing candidates running for office. The committee focuses on municipal and town races screening candidate’s on their issues positions and their viability to win elected office. The Political Committee makes non-binding recommendations to GBLC COPE. The Committee reaches these decisions through a process of consensus.
Since the committee’s inception in 2004 members have revised the endorsement process (click link here) and have interviewed candidates from the majority of cities and towns within the Greater Boston Labor Council jurisdiction.
The Political Committee also helps make strategic targeting decisions during election cycles to best utilize Council resources. The Committee has focused on electing union members to office in accordance with the National AFL-CIO Target 5000 program as well as electing men and women who will be a voice for working families throughout the GBLC jurisdiction and on Beacon Hill.
The Political Committee is open to any interested delegate of the Greater Boston Labor Council. For meeting times and locations please contact the Greater Boston Labor Council, (617) 723-2370.
