Why Join The Council?

Over 150 labor unions throughout the Greater Boston area have joined the Central Labor Council and more are joining each year. The Council can be a great resource to any union seeking to expand, organize, affect legislation, pursue their interests on the municipal or state levels, or have a better connection to other area unions and the labor movement as a whole.

Through our affiliation with the AFL-CIO, the Greater Boston Labor Council is directly connected to the national and state agendas, playing an active role in the voice of organized labor.  It is a voice that could and should include every union in the Boston area.

Through solidarity charters, the Council is also connected to several large unions in the area not currently affiliated with the national movement, bringing new perspectives and resource to the table.  We also have experience in moving a legislative agenda, and are here to help our member unions get what they need.

Some benefits that you'll get from joining the Greater Boston Labor Council include:

  • A broader understanding of the labor movement's goals and initiatives
  • An opportunity to attend the annual Legislative Breakfast with labor leaders and legislators
  • Help with new union organizing
  • Support in campaigns for embattled bargaining units
  • A voice in local and state politics
  • The opportunity to attend our annual Labor Day Breakfast and our Municipal Dinner
  • Your own delegates to vote on the GBLC's actions and decisions
  • The chance to take part screening and endorsement process of candidates for elected office
